5 of the Best Winter Events in Melbourne

The temperature’s dropping and the nights are getting longer in Melbourne, which can only mean one thing: winter is almost here.

To help warm you up and banish those winter blues, we’ve put together a round-up of some of the best winter events in Melbourne, both in and out of the city.

White Night

August 22nd–24th

White Night Melbourne is one of the city’s most beloved winter events. This year it’s been reimagined, with parks, gardens and cultural institutions city-wide getting their glow on. Plus, there’ll be food, drinks and music – what more could you want?!

Igloo Wonderland

May 1st–August 31st

Throughout Melbourne’s chilliest months, you’ll have the chance to get cosy in the Wharf Hotel’s Winter Igloos. Toasty-warm, see-through igloos on the banks of the Yarra are available for two-hour bookings, with food and drinks provided for $49 per person. Book a mini igloo for an intimate gathering of 4–8 people, or a mega igloo for a winter party with 9–30 guests!

Soundwalks

June 1st–7th

If you’re up for a unique winter stroll, you’ll want to check out the Melbourne International Jazz Festival’s Soundwalks project. Take an early evening wander and discover the soundscapes of Melbourne with a free ‘listening walk’ led by an acoustic ecologist (yep, that’s a thing!).

Winter Solstice Festival

June 22nd

Edendale Farm in Eltham is set to light up winter’s longest night with its Winter Solstice Festival. With entertainment, lantern-lighting and a huge bonfire, it’s worth making the half-hour trek to celebrate the solstice in style.

Glow Winter Arts Festival

August 15th–18th

It’s also worth heading a little way out of the CBD for the Glow Winter Arts Festival in Malvern East. The fifth annual festival will delight winter wanderers with its stunning installations, lighting up four chilly nights
at Central Park in August.
